Subject Comparison Tool i

About This Tool:
This comparison tool helps you quantitatively evaluate and rank two subjects across multiple customizable metrics with reference anchors. Whether you're comparing products, artists, candidates, or any other subjects, this tool provides a structured framework for systematic evaluation.

Key Features:

• Editable Names: Click any subject name (A/B) to customize it. Names sync automatically across all metrics, so you only need to set them once.

• Vertical Sliders: Drag sliders up or down to rate each subject on a scale from 0 to your chosen maximum. The colored bar fills to show the current value in real-time. You can also click on the numeric value below each slider to type in an exact rating with decimal precision.

• Customizable Scales: Change the max value for each metric (1-999) using the "Scale" input. This is useful for weighting metrics differently - for example, use a scale of 10 for minor factors and 100 for critical ones.

• Anchors (Reference Points): Enable the "Show Anchors" checkbox to reveal the Anchors column. Anchors serve as calibration benchmarks that help you maintain consistency across your ratings. For example, if rating rock artists on "Influence," you might set "The Beatles" at 100 to represent maximum influence, then rate your subjects relative to that standard. This prevents rating drift and ensures your comparisons remain objective.

You can add up to 20 anchor points per metric with custom names and values. Drag the green circular markers to adjust positions visually, or type exact values into the input fields for precision. Anchor names appear on both sides of the A and B sliders with green tick marks showing their precise positions, making it easy to see where your subjects rank compared to your benchmarks at a glance.

• Dynamic Scale Adjustment: When you change a metric's scale (e.g., from 100 to 200), all anchors automatically maintain their relative position on the slider while their values adjust proportionally. This means your carefully-placed reference points stay consistent even when you decide to use a different scale.

• Add/Remove Metrics: Add up to 10 custom metrics using the "+ Metric" button. Each metric can have its own scale and anchor points. Remove any metric by hovering your cursor over the metric box to reveal a red × button in the top-right corner - perfect for streamlining your comparison as it evolves.

• Undo Last Action: Made a mistake? Click the "Undo" button to reverse your last change. The tool tracks your recent actions so you can experiment freely without fear of losing your work.

• Save & Load Progress: Click "Save" to store all your data (subject names, metrics, slider values, anchors, and scales) in your browser's local storage. Click "Load" to restore your saved work - perfect for returning to your comparison later or preventing data loss. Note: Data is saved locally to your device and is not uploaded anywhere.

• Real-Time Totals: Scores automatically sum at the bottom of the page, making it easy to see which subject ranks higher overall. The totals update instantly as you adjust any slider.

• Precision Rating: Each slider and anchor supports values with one decimal place (e.g., 75.3, 82.7) for fine-grained comparisons when you need to make subtle distinctions between subjects.

Tips for Best Results:
- Set up your anchors first before rating your subjects
- Use consistent anchor points across related metrics
- Save your work frequently to preserve your progress
- Consider using different scales to reflect the relative importance of each metric
